Singapore
The JW Marriott Singapore South Beach is no longer quite as contemporary as it used to be, but if you want to access the downtown core and Marina Bay Areas, it remains a superb location, and the spread in the Executive Lounge for both breakfast and dinner remains top-notch. Their laska at breakfast has disappointed me a few times, but today it hit the spot. And their pre-arrival gift, mochi and macaroons both, was pretty good.
My morning run around Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay was sans camera, and I got a bit more exploration on food than I planned, as I was (unknown to me) visiting during National Day Parade (NDP) National Education Show 4, so a ton of streets were blocked off-- can't say too much about went on as it was limited to invited guests, but the evening activities had numerous flyovers by the Royal Singapore Air Force (hello F-15SG afterburner passes overhead!) and a beautiful fireworks show.
Somewhere in there I managed to grab dinner as well. Original plan was to wander to the Gluttons Bay Hawker Stalls, or as an alternative, the massive food court at Suntec City Mall... but instead, with all the security in place, decided to stop by the Hi Noodle at the adjacent MRT Esplanade. It was not the best beef noodle, cold cucumber, or pig ear, but all three were more than decent enough. Good quality tripe and whatnot in the beef noodle along with a nice noodle pull, and the ice cream cone incentive to bus your own tray is a clever one.
Unexpected benefit of dinner was it was right next to an unmanned, fully automated 7-Eleven in the train station. Kind of neat to see 7-Eleven doing what Amazon is also doing, even if the impact was somewhat diluted by the fact that a regular, fully-staffed 7-Eleven was right across the corridor.
