Hawaii
AAG Annual Meeting wrapped up on Saturday, then it was time to go for a nice long run and do some more food exploring.
The upstairs food court at Ala Moana Marketplace was busy but a bit less claustrophobic than the ground floor one, and the Musubi Cafe Iyasume branch there, while not cheap, was quite tasty. Liliha Bakery inside Macy's was the final stop; this late in the day they were picked pretty clean. Asked for a haupia malasada and was given an apple one instead (oops), which was not bad but more ordinary than memorable.
Dinner was from the local Foodland branch at the mall (err, marketplace). Kind of went overboard with three different kinds of poke, but heck, why not? The wasabi salmon was meh, the Hawaiian-style was not bad, the ahi limu was very good. Kim chi was quite good if you liked spice, too.
Wrapped up the trip the next day with brunch at Nico's Pier 38. Bernard recommended it, and as a slightly more out of the way place with a few more locals, it was excellent. The atmosphere-- bar, live music, fish market, patio, fishing boats, and all was quite appropriate, both the seared ahi salad and the clam chowder tasty, and seeing just how cheap au block sashimi (blue marlin, I think?) is was pretty mind-boggling.
