World Seafood
Disappointing dim sum at World Seafood. They were already out of har cheung fun (shrimp rice noodle roll) this early in the morning (!), they used dried scallop as a garnish on a few dishes which meant everything smelled fishy (even if it wasn't), scallop jook was kind of plain and tap-water-tasting (fixed by application of white pepper at least), and the ginger scallion beef tripe portion (negau paak yip) was oddly small in size. Shu mai would have been very decent if they hadn't been subjected to the dried scallop garnish, sadly the har gow were somewhat over-steamed so the skins fell apart.
Lo bac guo was done in the old school style, very thick and steamed, and it was the one dish that would have benefited from dried shrimps or dried scallops mixed in (not garnished), but instead was much to plain. Did not see the deep fried shrimp paste ball with sugarcane stick on the menu. Gow choy gow likewise lacked a bit on seasoning, at least the beef ball was pretty good?
Add in an interior that clearly hasn't changed since the place used to be called Shi Hai a solid nine years (!) ago and it was all the less reason to go here. The original plan to try this place came up because New Tea is across the street, although we walked over to New Tea after and elected to skip them too. Sue ended up getting her "bucket" of milk tea at Half and Half, where the large size is 33oz (976mL) so basically a liter anyway!
Board games after were Quacks of Quedlinburg and Splendor; did okay before dinner and terrible after dinner. Sue did her customary domination of everyone in Quacks, although she's starting to have some competition now, while Splendor was a split set of victories between Sue and Ophelia.
Somewhere in there was dinner from Islands Restaurant, which still has a few locations left. Cheese fries and nachos probably would have been better eaten at the restaurant as opposed to to-go, but we wanted to get back to board games! Also the summer strawberry salad was pretty forgettable, and Sue, Ophelia, and Kristina attacked the chicken wings so I assume they were good.
