Fooding
Finally made it to Tam's Noodle House for lunch. Won ton mein is pretty good, not quite HK-level (or even Hon's Wun Tun in San Francisco), but for 626 it's a reasonable enough fascimilie. Har cheung fun were less impressive looking but definitely more enjoyable than yesterday's prettier one at AYEE Rice Noodles Roll.
Unplanned and unexpected discovery down the street was Wah Sing Dim Sum as I was on my way to Tam's Noodle House. It was pretty late in the day even for a to-go dim sum place, and as a to-go place they clearly aim towards utilitarian, but they did the job. Not sure I'd consider them memorable in any way, but if you need a quick dim sum fix and are already in the area (and are closer to them than to, say, Dim Sum Express or Capital Dim Sum and BBQ), they'll do the job.
Quick late lunch/early dinner the next day at Ali'i Fish Company in El Segundo. There's very few purveoyors of proper Hawaiian poke on the mainland, maybe four who attempt it in Los Angeles/Orange County, and Ali'i Fish Company is definitely the best of them. Salmon shoyu, like most shoyu pokes on the mainland, was underwhelming, but the spicy ahi was quite acceptable. Worth a visit if you're craving authentic poke-- get the spicy ahi and the onion limu.
