First Los Angeles Marathon Expo in a few years. Not sure how much it's changed since the last pre-COVID-19 one in March 2023 (well... during COVID-19 really... sigh...), but felt pretty busy and still a decent size. Had a good selection of ethnic food trucks in addition to the ASICS store that was the focus, and solid representation from other races and the usual vendors.
Chinese food for lunch at the recently-changed Colette waaaaaaay at the eastern end of Pasadena. It's not much for dim sum, average at best with a smaller than average menu for dim sum. The entree menu is the reason why you go, with Chef Peter Lai's (who used to be at Embassy Kitchen in San Gabriel) famous shrimp-stuffed chicken leading the way. Friends were big fans of the salmon carpaccio although I wasn't quite as excited (price isn't bad tho), well-done beef vermicelli was excellent if too oily the second half, and the abalone-atop-taro tart was really more for show than anything else.
Not a bad experience, especially for entrees, but they're so far out there it's hard to say they'd be a first choice. Although if you're already in the area, going a little bit south to CC Cake for milk tea is definitely a good idea.
Wrapped up the weekend the next day with the LA Marathon. Training cycle got absolute decimated by illnesses and injuries, but at least the weather was perfect with moderate temperatures, mostly overcast, and just a few hints of rain til the very end. 4:43:12 at a 10:48/mile chip time; 4:38:28 at 10:25/mile GPS time given an unplanned total of seven weeks off from training will do til next year!
Great to run with Mike, Allison, AJ, and Steve as well-- AJ's first marathon where he smoked the adults as usual, and hadn't seen Steve in far too long.
