Belgium
Morning arrival in Brussels was pleasant enough, the train ride from the airport to the station nearest the hotel wasn't bad at all (and was right under the European Commission building!), then had a bit of a delay as some other tourists also needed to get their metro passes. Things were over with quickly enough, then it was time to unload bags and head to a Michelin 2* lunch at Comme Chez Soi.
Fine dining for lunch is not my usual, but it was the only Michelin star place I could book on such short notice. Their full seven course meal did not disappoint, but it didn't blow me away either, especially not when you factor in the expectations set and, of course, the price a 2* can charge. Still, as Belgium is the home of many fine dining establishments, it was nice to say I at least tried one of them.
Lots of wandering the rest of the afternoon. Mannekin-pis, Grote Market, Galerie De La Reine, and of course, plenty of chocolate shops: Mary, Neuhaus, Pierre Marcolini, probably forgetting at least one other. About the only really underwhelming thing was Noordzee / Mer Du Nord, although in their defense, it seems like dinner time is not the ideal time to eat there, doubly so when you're visiting out of mussels season.
