Missed connection due to high winds and fog at SFO, which caused my departure from LAX to be delayed not once, but twice-- arrived in SFO and ran to the gate, finding my airplane to Singapore still there but the door closed and jetbridge retracted. ;_; Due to the bad weather at SFO, they were slot-restricted and United understandably did not want to lose their slot for a Singapore flight.
With all the flights full for the holidays, the only option to get to Singapore the same day was a $12,000 one-way business class fare via Singapore Airlines. I said no thanks, accepted United's offer of a hotel and a flight the next morning, and started hitting up friends to see who was free to hang out. To my surprise, Pearl and Simon were free, so ended up hanging out with them the rest of the day. China North Dumpling's braised and deep fried eggplant is indeed the cardiac delight that Pearl promised, Chinese dessert at Golden Island Cafe is a very traditional delight, and even had an unexpected Mia sighting while at dessert. Ended up being a pretty good way to handle a one-day flight delay.
