Cuba
Thought we'd stop by Fusterlandia on the way back to Havana-- we left pretty early, after a simple but tasty breakfast from the casa particular-- but instead it was straight back to Havana. Actually did a pair of stops on the way back, one at a decidedly less pretty rest stop by a reservoir or lake not too far from Havana, then another one that was really an extended meander through the suburbs between the highway and the airport, trying to find me a post office. Turns out finding an actual working post office that sends mail internationally in Cuba is quite difficult, I am actually curious if/when the postcard I sent will arrive!
The slightly meandering search to find a working post office had the side benefit of seeing a bit more of Havana itself, including some large apartment buildings where ordinary people live, so it was a nice window on the daily life of working Cubans. I still ended up plenty early arrival to the airport as well, where I ended up with a standard airport meal-- overpriced and mediocre, given we didn't stop for lunch on the way back.
Had a bit of a late return, but the plane made up most of the time (hello overly padded schedules), and was back home by late evening. Even managed a Carl Brothers sighting on my return back to LAX-- Carl was just arriving for his next flight and I was just ending my trip.
