Arrived at Singapore's Changi International Airport so early that Jewel Changi was largely still closed, even after I dwadled around the terminal for a bit to try to find a Ya Kun Kaya Toast. With my breakfast plans foiled, went back to the terminal 2 airside area for a decidedy so-so breakfast of har cheung fun and won ton noodle soup at Chef Wei HK Cheong Fun before boarding my flight to Siem Reap.
Singapore Air has a nice little fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8's for short hauls, although somehow they ordered regular overhead bins and not (!) the larger space bins. They still spent money on a decent IFE system with some nice (if badly programmed) maps, and they tried to distract you from the decidedly non-spacious 30 inches of pitch between the seats with an excellent seafood noodle on the ~2 hour flight. Sadly did not book first class on this flight, as the 2-2/1-1 lie-flat configuration looked awesome. Alas...
Arrival at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport showed a lot of local flair and Chinese construction, then ended up being the sole passenger on the hotel shuttle for the 50 minute ride to the hotel. Turns out the Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap is a 5 star hotel, which was a bit shocking to this American, who is used to most Courtyards being rather elderly hotels that are solidly 3 star at best, with the occasional brand-new one being maaaaybe reaching for 4 stars. Scored an upgrade to a massive suite with a view of the pool and one of those crazy nice bathrooms with a huge plate glass window. Hotel food was about twice or three times what it should have been, but was hard to complain about the quality or the convenience.
