Days 1 and 2: Flying
Day 2: Hong Kong
Day 3: Hong Kong
Hong Kong
It had been far too long since the last visit to Hong Kong. Hopping on United's newly-restored non-stop LAX-HKG flight was an added bonus, as was the upgrade to business class. Food was surprisingly not just good but excellent in United's business class, and my upgrade to Polaris actually went through a few days in advance. Given how mediocre United's catering normally is, having unexpectedly great lamb chops last month on SFO-CHC inaugural and then the perfectly marbled, delicious shortribs on this flight was an utter shock.
Rest of the flight was pretty solid, with the customarily terrible tomato soup and grilled cheese for a mid-flight snack (just in case you were thinking United had really changed their ways), and the pre-arrival meal of shrimp congee was the usually very tasty but also such a small portion it would have left a toddler hungry.
Was fun to see Disney Wish livery on an Air Canada 787-9 at the next gate over on arrival, and then because the pre-arrival meal was so small, the first stop was Ho Hung Kee for a plate of beef chow fun at the arrivals hall. The airport location is not the same as the Michelin 1* location in Causeway Bay, but it definitely hit the spot after a 15 hour flight. The ride on the airport express was customarily efficient, as was the bit of a walk from MTR Hong Kong Station to MTR Central Station for the last bit of ride to the hotel.
The Renaissance Harbour View is very nice for a Renaissance, with some great views of the harbor as their name promises, and a decent enough room and location.
