London
Woke up to the sounds of The Big Race, one of London's largest and best known half marathons, outside the window. Way cool and kind of wish I had known about it ahead of time!
We missed breakfast at Koya Bar so plan B was Nessa's superb English breakfast. The back bacon in particular was delicious, and Parveen also loved her green bean toast (aka not avocado toast). Hung out a bit at 1 Warwick after, one of the nifty coworking spaces Sam has a membership to; lots of atmosphere, nicer than a typical WeWork by a lot. Can easily see why some choose to hot-desk here rather than at home, but to be fair if you don't do work here much, not sure how worth it it is (exclusivity is fun but definitely a luxury!).
Then it was off to the airport for the flight home. Apologies to Sam and Parveen for running off when I saw a train was pulling in (!). United's got a pretty organized physical boarding setup at LHR, with Global Services and stuff all separate, but sometimes the staff running things is a bit behind. By comparison, the flight crew-- same as yesterday's flight, was very much one of United's best crews, and the sirloin, while still not great, was surprisingly edible given the slop United feeds us. The cold beef "salad" with the sirloin continued United's traditional of weird/dumb food pairings, and while it's nice they have brought the ice cream sundaes back, the fudge is still closer to chocolate syurp than fudge and is pretty sub-par.
Had some bumps on the flight, watched a few movies, enjoyed the rather lukewarm mid-flight snack of a grilled cheese and celery soup (the one blemish on the flight crew to be honest, heated by a junior FA...), enjoyed another movie or something, then pre-arrival meal time. Risotto was kind of whatever but it was loaded with veggies and the end result was actually quite good. Then a lovely sunset approach over Arizona and the Inland Empire before arriving at LAX.
