With today being the planned arrival day for most of the guests on this cruise, National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions arranged a city tour in the afternoon. The English clock tower, the massive Floralis Generica, Av. 9 de Julio, and Cementerio de la Recoleta (where Eva Peron is buried) were highlights, along with a stop at El Zanjon for a tour of mid-1500s Buenos Aires history. Have to say I was a bit confused/unimpressed by El Zanjon at first, maybe I should have read up more on local history before I arrived?
Early evening was a pre-cruise cocktail hour at the hotel, with an appropriately large roast beef being carved for the guests, and an introduction to some of the expedition naturalists and staff. Along with the news that Argentina had declared tomorrow a holiday, and that the Argentina nationa team was due back at 2:00am in the morning.
Which meant that the 2.5 million Argentines who had spend yesterday afternoon celebrating were now going to head to the airport to try and catch a glimpse of the football team returning home. So instead of the originally scheduled 3:00am wake-up call and ~4:00am departure to the airport, we were going to be asked to get up at 1:00am instead, with a ~2:00am departure to the airport.
