Mammoth
With the crowds having abated, joined the entire Chen-Wu family on the slopes in the morning. Lucas is just old enough to hit the slopes, and having everyone out with him felt like a full-blown entourage! Well except for Mason, who was apparently doing super well in his second day ever on the slopes in ski school.
In a rare occurrence, Lan Lan stayed out with the rest of us. We had a quick bagged lunch break then soaked in the unexpectedly perfect* snow via High Five Express and McCoy Station all the way to the backside. We would have stayed longer except some** people took a few accidential detours and Mason's ski school ended at 3:00pm, so some of us had to head back (Pearl and Chris might have devoured some grilled cheese sandwiches at The Outpost on the backside...).
Simon and I found a very proud ski instructor with Mason back at Canyon Lodge, saying Mason was a star and all done with beginner lessons. We ran over to Schoolyard to finish off the day with Mason and holy crap, he's so fast that Simon can barely keep up! And by the time Chris got back with Pearl and done fussing with his 27 cameras, Chris looked up and found Mason halfway down the mountain!
On a previous trip, Lan Lan decided she wanted burgers, so tonight's dinner was burgers at the Lai-Placer condo. Burgers may not be anywhere near as delicious as Chris' adobo, but burgers followed by ice cream definitely hit the spot. By the time dessert was over, the skiiers and boarders were clearly all wiped out after a full day on the mountain-- or the 6 hours that is about the longest we go these days!
* = perfect is relative, for this season, I'll take it!
** = Lan Lan... twice...
