Sint Maarten
The redeye never gets any better, but when you have to work the day before, what can you do? The United Club at Dulles International Airport isn't much, but it beat starving, and then the next flight, on an old Boeing 737-700, was at least pleasant enough.
Arrival in Sint Maarten was much like any other Caribbean airport. Hurricanes mean that they all seem to look the same, with two story-ish squat buildings with thick walls between banks of windows. At least it's a quick walk from the airport to the beach and then to the hotel, with a convenient grocery store on the way-- didn't even need a car!
Had a spectacular view of the runway from The Morgan Resort and Spa. Probably should have gone up to the observation deck, but the shaded balcony of my room was much more appealing than baking in the sun. Ended the day with a few beach shots and a tourist trap dinner at the local Tex-Mex restaurant-- the beach was definitely the thing to do, even better than the hotel view!
