China 2010: Day 9: Hong Kong
Guangzhou to Hong Kong bus: despite comfortable accommodations (assuming your legs weren't too long), the border crossing was definitely a bit nuts...
Making it into Hong Kong, we eventually figured out the subway and made it the one stop to the hotel (or was it two?), got cleaned up, and then wandered in search of food. Admiralty station has Pacific Place on top of it, which had our hotel-- but then we found Pacific Place was one of only three interconnected shopping malls! t'was a bit confusing as we wandered in search of food, wondered why we couldn't find any, then eventually made it over a few more walkways and FINALLY found food. I found a Cafe de Coral (HKD$20 for lunch, with drink. Nice!) and then a KFC for dan tat, everyone else found something else, then sort of blind wandering had me running into everyone else again (don't ask).
We enjoyed the view from the Conrad Hilton's upper floors (44th for us?) of the Peak and of Hong Kong Harbor til dinner, which was at the (in)famous Goldfinch Cafe. HKD$99 to HKD$109 black pepper steak dinners? YUUUM!!!!
Wandered around afterwards-- Goldfinch is right near Causeway Bay-- the view of Hong Kong Harbor from the Kowloon side, and finally up to Mong Kok before calling it a night. I think some of the cousins got a much bigger kick out of it than I did, since they'd never been before... it's still amazing and unique, but at that point I was getting crabby and decided to spare everyone my crabbiness and go back to the hotel.
