Midwest
A week in Minneapolis for PEARC26, basically a bunch of nerds talking about research computing and data. Then off to Ohio to catch up with friends since I was kinda-sorta already in the area; it's always good to catch up with Erik and Joel and see their families.
PEARC26 isn't the largest or most exciting conferences, but after spending some time talking to one of their former steering committee members, apparently they keep it on the smaller side on purpose. I am not entire sure I agree with all of the benefits, but I can say that after one pre-conference day and four more actual conference days, it feels like the right length to pretty throughly attend the presentations you want to attend, talk to everyone you want to, and not feel like you missed too too much due to your schedule being double booked.
Day 1: pre-conference all-day event with CaRCC RCD Nexus Day.
Day 2: PEARC26 day 1: workshops and tutorials, plus vendor receptions.
Day 3: PEARC26 day 2: sessions all day, vendor receptions, followed by the official conference reception at Mill City Museum.
Day 4: PEARC26 day 3: sessions all day, then catching up with locals for dinner at Quang Restaurant.
Day 5: PEARC26 day 4: half-day including closing keynote, followed by a proper exploration of Mill City Museum.
Day 6: going from pouring rain in Minneapolis to a nice and dry Cleveland.
Day 7 visiting with both Joel and Erik down in Columbus.
Day 8 dim sum at Li Wah before heading to Microcenter and then, ultimately, home.
