Amazon AWS Summitt
Amazon AWS Summit comes back to Los Angeles. Always good to see what new things have come to AWS, as well as how others are using it. Los Angeles Metro had a particularly well-attended session regarding their customer experience/call center usage.
Hopped on the train to LAX afterwards, A line (Blue line) to Willowbrook/Rosa Parks station, which is smack in the middle of I-105, then the C line (Green line) to the relatively new LAX/Metro Transit Center. With the LAX SkyLink (automated people mover) still not running, had to take the shuttle bus from the LAX/Metro Transit Center to airport itself, which was still pretty quick, all thing considered. Still, had cut things just a tad fine and made it to my gate in the middle of boarding, but thankfully was traveling light and was still able to squeeze my bag into the overhead bin.
Things went a bit off the rails in Houston, where I think maintenance issues forced United to take away the airplane assigned to my IAH-DFW flight and give to a different set of passengers (IAH-YYC), leaving us bunch of Houston to Dallas passengers delayed for well over an hour as a different airplane was assigned to us. Still, not the worst delay, and made it to Dallas proper before 1:00am. Plus had time to try the new Cantonese BBQ beef brisket while stuck at the airport. It was... passable? I can imagine it being better than what the IAH Terminal E location did, but not sure I'm in too much of a hurry to try it again, especially given how calorific it is.
