Mammoth
Heading up to Sierra Nevadas a day or two (or three) after a big storm (archive) is a good way to enjoy a beautiful snow-dusted drive early; this time snow was seen way quite far south. Copper Top in Big Pine was on-point with their tri-tip and green chili today, while the pork ribs and chicken sausage were pretty decent too. Maybe the snow all over the place helped with the vibe?
By the time we got north of Bishop, snow was on thick, and we were glad we were in daylight as we could enjoy the scenery. Got in to Mammoth before 5pm, unpacked, ended up at Noodle-ly right about 5:30pm, where they were crazy packed. According to the staff they became massively popular just after my last visit, a little over two years ago? They've even taken over a little space next door, and while the food won't amaze if you're expecting 626 or 714 quality, it's still legit.
Hit the slopes the next day, had some beautiful (if warm) wather, a solid lamb vindaloo (I think it was lamb) for lunch at Main Lodge, and overall a nice relaxing and enjoyable day on the mountain. The Chen-Wu family provided tacos for dinner, which, while not as fancy as Chris' cooking, did hit the spot.
