Surf City Half Marathon
Surf City Half Marathon pre-race expo and race. They brought out the old Volkswagen microbus clubs in force this year, and the expo made admirable use of their space, forcing you on a giant u-shaped path which felt annoying, but made me think about flow-- they did good with the space they had.
Race the next day was quite pleasant, weather almost perfect, although the shuttle bus system to the start line somehow remains a mess (heard a bunch of comms over the radio, it was... not well organized). I don't think any of us were running for time this year, due to various injuries and whatnot meaning training was pretty much entirely screwed for both myself and Mike, so being able to run a 2:10:19 (chip time, 9:56/mile) / 2:09:40 (GPS time, 9:48/mile) was a decent enough result.
Post-race fooding at Creme de la Crepe at Old World Village nearby (separate from nearby Bella Terra) was quite decent, the omelet that Mike got looked good. Spicy lamb sausace hash wasn't bad but wasn't terribly memorable. Debated milk tea after at BenGong's or somwhere else on my list, but in the end, the fact that ComeBUYTEA was right down the block won out. And yes, the Beach Cities Challenge medal this year is a crab-- actually quite well done.
