Bakersfield
Finally made it up to one of Jerry's invites to a Sun World fruit tasting. Bakersfield is a bit of a haul and schedules are no fun to coordinate-- made it up with Jason this time, tried to get Mike, but he couldn't make his schedule work.
Apparently stonefruits (peaches, nectarines, apricots, etc. Don't think cherries are a Bakersfield thing) are earlier in the year, August is all grapes. Not that we were complaining-- there were some absolutely delicious ones. And it felt like a science project, being asked for our opinion on each breed of grape we tasted; every presentation was unique. Those that were technically the same breed but were presented differently would see one as harvested fresh, one pulled from storage as commercial sample, as an example. Very cool, as was seeing the grape breeding labs.
Followed things up with some of Jerry's delicious home cooking-- had no idea that SSCERT has two gourmet chefs. Joe has competition!
