UCLA BruinTech's annual spring conference was a bit more focused on presentations this year than previous years, with no real panels or free-form working groups or anything. Honestly the format worked out fairly well, with Steve Yu, COO/CFO of the new UCLA South Bay campus, giving a particularly good presentation on motivation and communication to become a more effective individual; we get a lot more emphasis on becoming a more effective institution or more effective contributor, but the focus specifically on the individual was quite interesting and effective.
Evening event was UCLA Geography's annual von Humboldt awards celebration, this time at UCLA Luskin Conference Center, celebrating both recent awards as well as retirements. Well-attended and quite good as usual, and a nice change of format from the previous more formal sit-down dinner.
