Malta
With the successful exploration of Valletta the previous day, we decided to continue our exploration of Malta in the old walled city of Mdina today.
While nothing in Malta is large by modern standards, Mdina is outright tiny, barely a few minutes' walk in any direction. One wider avenue for the main street, the rest quite narrow, with restaurants built into ancient buildings dotted with courtyards and fountains. Coogi's proved to be another tourist trap, but at least the desserts were very good, and their two ground floor courtyards and one upper balcony had great ambiance-- especially the latter, with terrific views of a relatively dry countryside over the city wall. After lunch revealed carriages both inside and outside of the main gate, a decorative moat-turned-garden, and plenty more tourists. There might have been more to see but a tight schedule and windy weather drove us back to the hotel.
Hours later, was time for another late dinner at the hotel. Maltese special is apparently a folded pizza, which proved to be massive, and perhaps one of the more tasty items on the menu if you needed a break from pasta.
