Malta
Someone needed to get away, and given we both like going new places, it was a bit of a discussion on where to go next. After throwing a bunch of places out there, we settled on Malta, in part due to photographer Eric Rubens' last visit to the little island nation.
Unfortunately our schedules prevented a more through exploration of the three islands that make up Malta, let alone all the major towns/cities, but Valletta was definitely worth the trouble, Mdina was a solid afternoon trip, and if we had had more time, Gozo probably would have been cool.
Day 1: from Los Angeles to London.
Day 2: long layover means afternoon tea at The Rosebery plus a stroll of Notting Hill.
Day 3: first day in Malta means exploring the local neighborhood down to St. Julian's and beyond.
Day 4: staying local in St. Julian's.
Days 5/6: exploring the historic coastal city of Valletta.
Day 7: making it inland to the walled city of Mdina.
Day 8: another local day in St. Julian's.
Day 9: Mellieha, Cirkewwa, and Gozo.
Day 10: early morning return home.
