Mammoth
One last morning of skiing with Mike before leaving Mammoth. Five days of blue skies and calm winds gave way to a decidedly breezy, cloudy day today. Plans to go up to the top were quickly dashed by poor visibility, but we picked up on some gaps in the clouds at the top of High Five and got in all but one good run up there. Snow was in pretty good shape as well, the crowds got bad one other run, then after five full runs up and down High Five Express, headed back to Canyon Lodge and the Village Gondola to head home.
Stopped by Great Basin Bakery on the way home; they don't do cheese bread like their competitor, but they have a solid spread of the usual bakery goods, what looks like a popular sourdough, and a very intriguing collection of miniature pies. Their roast beef sandwich is okay, a bit messy, while the turkey cranberry is excellent. Parking is best done in a local lot barely two minutes' walk away, way easier than the craziness of their competitor. And just for fun, south of Palmdale, ran into a Cheetah Evolution kit car being trailered south. Had not seen one of those before-- nifty!
Home just long enough to unpack, re-pack, and then run off to the airport up to the Bay Area. The AC Hotel by Marriott Sunnyvale Cupertino is pretty new, having opened during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was quite nice, although the junior suite was more style than practicality. The corner junior suite overlooked a busy street corner and hence had quite a bit of morning traffic, while the bathroom was... interesting.
