Mekeni Pinoy's Pride
Madison finally got us organized for a mid-week dinner to a Filipino place he'd been talking about, Mekeni Pinoy's Pride down in Artesia. The rain made it a brutal drive (over 2 hours) but as promised, the Wednesday dinner buffet was quite a spread. Jason, Jakob, and Madison in particular loaded up on all the nom's present, with a particular focus on lobster. The bone marrow soup was another highlight for several of us.
For us old folk who appreciate our veggies, the chop suey with shrimp and quail eggs was actually pretty good too. I think the only item that was a pass was the lechon; the skin was more tough than crispy, and the meat lacked the wonderful slightly firmer texture and seasoning of the Chinese and Vietnamese versions. In the end it was a great experience, but maybe better if we could skip the henious traffic!
