Fooding roundup
The Northern Cafe location on Gayley Ave has added some Sichuan food to the menu; sadly the Northern Cafe Noodle House a few blocks away on Weyburn Ave. does a better job with the spicy fish.
Caught up with Kristina over dinner in Koreatown the next day, Borit Gogae's set menu is mostly vegetarian and is famous for a reason. Saw some other tables order galbi or other dishes along with it, but even by itself it's quite a lot of food. Scorched rice soup, corn pancakes, snails, a chicken soup (more like a porridge) were all pretty good, and they even have parking in the back. Wandered over to Indigo Cow after for soft serve ice cream-- was good but holy cow I'd forgotten how bad parking was in that area.
Finally a quick stop in El Segundo for Jake's 3rd birthday-- his parents, Nazzer and Tiffany, threw a huge party complete with massive bounce house. Was impressive! Forgot to get photos, but I did get a bite at Two Guns Kitchen nearby while I was there. They change the menu there pretty often so the chicken and waffles I was hoping for were not on the menu; instead got their take on a breakfast plate. Vaguely reminded me of a full English with the grilled tomato, but not quite; mushroom gravy and toast was an odd combo but actually worked fairly well.
