UC Tech's next two days were at UC Davis. Focused on a lot of research computing/research storage stuff; had an excellent presentation from UC Davis on using Amazon S3 Deep Glacier for research data backup. Somewhere in there was lunch with Trandrew. Open Rice Kitchen was crazy cheap, not great food and not much atmosphere, but mind-boggling how cheap food still can be.
Afternoon sessions included an extremely well-attended UC-UX meetup, then an Amazon AWS Birds of a Feather that was not as good as last year; for some reason last year Amazon AWS brought the entire team, this year they were told they could only bring 10 people. Last year's was much less structured, much more of a meet and greet, which also seemed more useful.
Later in the day was awards ceremonies headlined by University of California CIO Van Williams, happy hour and live musicians (Crackerjack Polka Band and Mariachi Bonitas de Dinorah), then a proper quick dinner at Pho King 4. Like lunch, can't expect too much, but it was nice to have something hot in the cold.
