Singapore
The vagaries of the international date line mean that an evening departure from the USA arrives the morning, two days later, in Singapore. As full as this flight was, definitely felt bad for people crammed in the regular economy seats, where getting out to stretch involves disturbing your neighbors, and the limited recline is, well, straight up rough (along with the even more limited leg room). N29984 doing long-haul laps (in this case, 15hr 26min in the air over 8,512 miles estimated, 8,874 miles (Flightaware), 8,449 miles (great circle)) is no fun for anyone in economy or even premium economy.
Early morning arrival at Singapore Changi Airport meant most of the transit-area stuff was open, but not much else in the airport. Having done this a few times, I knew to stick with Chef Wei HK Cheong Fun's so-so Cantonese food air-side, then up to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold lounge. (pro-tip: laska at the KrisFlyer Gold lounge is good, har gow are okay, shu mai are gross.) Ran out of time to grab a shower at the SATS Premier Lounge, which was not great, but at least I had time to pick up some Pokemon-themed Oreos as gifts for the return.
N29984, the exact same Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner I'd arrived on not quite 3 hours earlier, was still in the same place I'd left it, and I was in almost the exact same seat on the return home. Seat 42C is exit row aisle instead of exit row window, and I missed the extra bit of storage that the window had. Still not the worst seat, had another pretty solid flight crew (although sadly no Polaris tapas meal hookups), and an even longer flight east than west. UA 2 this morning was 8,473 miles estimated, 8,740 miles (Flightaware), 8,449 miles (great circle), and 15hr 46min actual flight time. This resulted in a slightly early arrival to SFO, but sadly the earlier connection to LAX was full so I was stuck on my original flight back to LAX.
Still not the worst way to spend a weekend, at least if you're a crazy airline status chaser...
