Cambodia
A long-overdue visit to Cambodia, to do the admittedly very tourist thing of Siem Reap and its surrounding temples. Angkor Wat is of course the highlight, but the rest of the temples in the area are mostly well-worth a visit as well. With limited time and some long-awaited rain on the way, had to prioritize a bit with Ta Prohm, Preah Khan, and Preah Palilay as the major temples that I visited on this trip.
The relatively new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI), the Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap (5-star rated, legit), and a few other bits were also clear evidence of recent money poured into the country, particularly by China.
Day 1: the start of a long day of flying, but at least my upgrade cleared early.
Day 2: had a day completely disappear due to the vagaries of the international date line, a brief connection in Singapore, and then a quick flight to Siem Reap.
Day 3: Angkor Wat at sunrise, plus Ta Prohm. The Victory Gate at Angkor Thom as well.
Day 4: Preah Khan first thing in the morning, Tep Pranam, Preah Palilay, and Khmoch Gate (Gate of the Dead) later.
Day 5: airplanes and airports and airport lounges all day: Angkor Lounge at SAI, staff canteen at SIN, and the Singapore Air SilverKris Lounge (SIN).
