Chicken feet were sliced in half. Odd.

Char siu bao.

Deep fried shrimp ball were missing the sugar cane stick. And that's not regular mayo. Weird.

Why is the lo bac guo chopped into cubes?

Deep fried pork chop was a bit lacking on flavor compared to the best of them.

Xiao long bao were diminutive, with thick skins.

Har gow had skins that were also way too thick.

Pai gut were not bad.

Lo mai gai were okay.

Ender looks a bit concerned.

Summer flavors at Salt and Straw.

Cinnamon and honey fried chicken is okay. A tad sweet, not quite sure what the fried chicken is supposed to add as it didn't taste like much.

Post-board games catching up.

Sometimes the convenience of location wins out above taste and price, and today was one of those days. Dim sum at Fifty One in Culver City is not great, with some decidedly odd decisions, but when friends with a new baby want to come, it was the most convenient choice by far. And Salt and Straw being down the block most certainly did not hurt. The summer seasonal flavor cinnamon and honey fried chicken was a nice cinnamon flavor, a tad too sweet as American ice creams tend to be, not quite sure what the chicken was supposed to add. They had a sour cherry as well that looked good?

Feng zhao (chicken feet) were sliced in half, lo bac go (turnip cake) was served cubed instead of as cakes, and the deep fried shrimp ball were not only missing the sugarcane stick in the middle, they were not served with the traditional mayo. Most of the rest was okay to average at best, perhaps the best description is undistinguished? On the plus side, Baby Ender woke up shortly after the start of the meal, and he did not object to Uncle Chris holding him, even if he did seem to wonder who was this stranger holding him.

Board games after were mostly one long session of Terraforming Mars, with some to-go from Versailles for dinner. The ox tail today was not bad, and it was good to see Chris for the first time in a zillion years.
