San Diego Supercomputer Center
The last day of San Diego Supercomputer Center's excellent week-long summer institute for high performance computing (HPC) and data science. Quite a packed morning, including a session on knowledge management and graph, plus two sessions on SDSC's newest supercomputers, Voyager and Cosmos. They were even nice enough to send us off with boxed lunches.
Left immediately in an effort to beat traffic, quick stop at Oliboli Donuts for their fresh-made, fresh-glazed treats. Between Duck Donuts and Oliboli Donuts, I think it's safe to say I actually don't care for freshly-pulled-from-the-deep-fryer donuts and their still melty glaze. Give me a few minutes to enjoy a glaze that has properly set, please. The vibe was very stereotypical wholesome Orange County, but welcome enough for all that, and then was time to get back into traffic.
A few errands later and it was clear that I was not going to make it back home (let alone to the office) at a reasonable hour, so gave up and headed to Broth Shabu Shabu in Cerritos for dinner. For all you can eat, they are extremely affordable and well worth the stop if you are in the area. They have ample parking as well, unlike some of their competitors in k-town or in 626. The quality of the meat is pretty good but won't blow you away, the sauce bar is basic but adequate. Stick to the nicer cuts of beef for ample enjoyment.
