Hawaii
Mike planned a family vacation and asked a bunch of us to tag along, so tag along we did. With Bernard now moved to Oahu, that was an extra reason to visit as well. Hopped on a quick flight to Honolulu, picked up by Bernard (and dropped off his luggage), and then off to the Original Roy's Hawaii Kai for dinner. Had quite a group, with the Lee family, Bernard, Joe and Lu plus Lu's cousin Yin Yin, Tim, and myself-- aka a motley collection of current and former UCLA IT management over the years plus some family thrown in.
Food at Original Roy's Hawaii Kai was on the nicer side and was priced accordingly. Can't say it blew me away, but it was a pretty solid meal, and clearly lived up to the reputation of Chef Roy Yamaguchi. Service was generally good but had a few significant hitches: they were out of ribeyes, which they at least let us know early, and they ran out of whole fish, which they didn't let us know til the meal was served... although to be fair their recovery wasn't too awful. They even gave Joe and Lu a gift certificate because it also happened to be their wedding anniversary.
