A morning shooting sporting clays at Bull Run in Virgina with Matt and Jordan. My first time shooting clay pigeons-- tons of fun, and worth the bruising.
Lunch after at Purple Patch, with an excellent crab fat and pork pancit. Tocino with garlic rice was kind of like a similar dish yesterday at Thip Khao, tasty enough but not unique. Matt and Jordan enjoyed both the chicken wings and the shortrib sliders, but like the tocino I found them good but not memorable. Had some fun with cars before an afternoon run with Cousin Matt-- next time we need to go about a mile further to hit the tourist areas (oops!). We at least had plenty of shade, which made it a very nice run despite the day's earlier heat.
Dinner at Martha Dear, a very new Italian place, with a superb spinach, cherry tomato, and halloumi pizza. Two amazing dishes two days in a row, who would have expected that?? The other two pizzas were also good but not nearly the same level as the first-- second was a 'nduja with peppers, third was the classic cheese with added meatballs. Conveniently, one floor above Martha Dear is Mount Desert Island, Matt's favorite ice cream place. Their considerable popularity means a decidedly inconvenient line, but at least it moves at a decent clip (~20 minute wait this time), and in celebration of AAPI heritage month, they had a very Asian-themed menu. The blueberry basil I had was acceptable enough and the candied ginger in sweet cream ice cream was a good try at ginger ice cream; should I have cause to go back I might try the more classic flavors?
