Yuan's Hot Pot
Late lunch on a rainy day at Yuan's Hot Pot with Rebecca. Its's a fairly new, very contemporarily decorated place, which has both pluses and minuses. Bright, spacious, with large tables for large pots and sizeable spreads are all appreciated; conversely the large tables and noisy space make it hard to have conversation.
Food and service are okay. Separate sauce bar and appetizer/dessert bar both seem a little undersized/suffer from less than ideal layouts, particularly the sauce bar. Angus beef and sliced lamb are both quite good, plus the beef organ meats (tripe, aorta, marinated tripe) range from decent to very good. Veggie quality is solid, as is the sponge tofu thing. The sheep brain appears to be more of a gimmick than anything else, and unfortunately that sort of seals the impression of Yuan's. They are solid, even good, but the experience seems to be less than its parts are.
