Yunomi Handroll
Downtown Culver City's food power continues to increase, with Yunomi Handroll being another solid place for hand rolls. They may have slightly more expansive menu than KazuNori, but the quality feels about the same or maybe just a touch worse. The greater than usual veggie appetizer options is a welcome addition, with the slightly over-sauced green beans being a much appreciated addition when you feel like you need more vegetables in your life.
The decor inside is typical modern Japanese wood tones and space, but perhaps aging a bit prematurely, which is unsurprising how busy this location is. And the sushi, as noted, is quite acceptable, but nothing special. The six handroll set, done spicy, is an unremarkable spicy tuna, a pretty good spicy albacore, and similarly unremarkable spicy salmon, all done with warm loose rice that isn't quite as loose as Sugarfish/KazuNori. Spicy yellowtail is again okay, although the spicy scallop is pretty good. Finish it all up with a shrimp tempura that is completely unremarkable, yet is a nice change of pace from the raw fish.
In the end, not a bad experience, and the hand roll set is quite well priced.
Plus, completely unrelated, a random photo of clouds and the moon the night before.
