Christchurch
Late-night/early-morning notification of an extended delay on our return flight meant figuring out what to do on a rainy day. The obvious solution was the International Antarctic Centre. Even if you have already been to Antarctica, it's still pretty cool, because in addition to the landscape and the wildlife, it also spends a great deal of effort talking about the history of humanity in Antarctica. The effort it takes to survive in a remote part of the world is considerable, and experiencing some of the equipment they use (Hagglunds experience FTW!) was pretty cool.
Grabbed a mince pie at the cafeteria as well as I had barely eaten all day-- it did the job for cafeteria food-- then had a wet and rainy bus ride back to the city center. Dinner was Thai (technically Asian fusion?) at The Dish, with pretty decent raw oysters and a very okay wok fried monkfish. Then wrapped up the day early as it was time for one last (unplanned) night in Christchurch, and a much earlier morning to the airport than was originally planned for today.
