Breakfast at the Palace Hotel is so popular it requires a reservation, and the latest we could get was 9:00am. The Garden Court is a lovely venue, but even Marriott elite status doesn't entirely protect you from how expensive breakfast is. Diana's choice to go with the omelet instead of buying the third breakfast was the smart one, turns out The Palace omelet is massive. Meanwhile Elaine and I stuck to the complimentary continental breakfast buffet, and Diana had enough coffee to fill a swimming pool since it was so early.
Yummy Bakery for their egg white dan tat (wasn't impressed), then off to Palette Tea House for dim sum with the Lai family. Quite fun to go to such a trendy dim sum spot, even with their electrical issues. Food was best described as pretty, particularly the wu gok (deep fried taro balls) and the xiao long bao. However, honestly, the rest was standard/typical/ordinary enough to make it a tough call to come back unless you really need some food to Instagram.
A few steps away is Ghiradelli's ice cream shop, where the non-dairy sundae was definitely less enticing than the regular ones (with real ice cream and chocolate); but was still nice to see a non-dairy option offered. Mason had both the iced hot chocolate and then helped his mom demolish the non-dairy sundae, clearly he got the dessert gene!
Spent the evening with Elaine again; Mumu Hot Pot was actually pretty darned good considering it's out in the suburbs, and got the full on Wu-Kong family experience as Elaine and Jeff took care of their kids that night.
