South Africa
15 hours and 30 minutes (!) later, the arrival in Washington, DC was technically a bit early. Before landing, the french toast breakfast was still a pretty pathetic portion, although somewhat less tiny than it was a month ago. Decided to get a real breakfast in the Polaris Lounge after I arrived, where United did a complete 180 from the breakfast on the flight-- the "IAD Breakfast Sandwich" was an english muffin served with what felt like an entire skillet-sized omelet. They even claimed to have crab in it, although there was so much egg the crab was basically lost!
One more flight to go before getting home, this time on an old 777-200ER. At least my (complimentary) upgrade to domestic first class cleared just over a day before, and as a Polaris-configured 777, it had decent seats to go with the terrible, overly-sweet breakfast. Decent seats were key becase it was definitely nice to lie-flat for a few hours before landing and going to work.
In the end, a fun trip on a much more exciting inaugural flight than I expected. Might have been the right amount of relaxation, sightseeing, and work... except for, well, that work thing. Still can't complain too much in the end-- was nice to get away for a few days.
