Smorgasburg LA
First time at Smorgasburg, which is actually a not-too-crowded, but still pretty-crowded food market over at ROW DTLA. Go right when they open if you can, so you get 30 or 45 minutes before it gets too busy.
Black Sugar BBQ was both a little spicy and sweet, not quite sure if it was something any of us liked. But it wasn't bad, even if the sampler platter was both a little large and a little pricey (so good to share). Lobsterdamus' fries were okay, probably should have stuck to the lobster noodle. Mama Musbi is an old standby but they seem to have lost some of the deliciousness and presentation from when they started, and Wow Bao's lamb buns were merely passable, although their pork buns were pretty damned good.
Highlight was definitely Shrimp Daddy's Hawaiian-style shrimp served in half a pineapple. Not truly Hawaiian style, but 100% delicious. Even the overly dry rice with too much seasoning on half of it oddly worked, although the mac salad was pretty awful. Boong Croissant Takiyaki felt like a brilliant idea in theory and a miss in reality, as the takiyaki molds mean the flaky croissant potential is completely unable to express itself.
Wrapped the day up with board games. Thanos Rising was a nice change, while Sue had waaaaay over 100 points in Quacks of Quedlinburg and kicked everyone else's butt.
