South Africa
The nearly 3 hour delay on departure translated into an over 2 hour delay on arrival. Immigration and whatnot had the typical lines although nothing too horrible, and I was exhausted enough that I actually got a decent amount of sleep on the flight. The economy class gruel they serve also somehow didn't kill me over the span of 14 hours.
The hotel shuttle for the Protea by Marriott O.R. Tambo International Airport is a little confusing. When they say the shuttle pickup area is "at" or "behind" the on-airport Intercontinental, they mean walk west, straight out of the terminal exit, cross the airport terminal's ring road to the Intercontinential, then keep walking to a building/area/lobby that's technically behind/attached to the Intercontinental yet an entirely separate lobby/pick-up area. You'll end up still facing west into a parking lot that's the pick-up area. Several airport employees (including security) were very helpful.
The shuttle wasn't all that big, but somehow they squeezed me into the first pickup (it runs only every 30 minutes...), and probably close to 10pm I finally made it into my room.
This particular Protea is advertised as very aviation themed, and while it's kinda tacky it's also reasonably well done, all things considered, and still practical enough. The hotel is getting a bit worn but still does the job, and considering how dirt cheap it is, I have no complaints.
