Canary Islands
Wasn't planning to go to so many islands this year, but United kept adding new routes to them that worked with my schedule, so I wasn't going to complain. The Canary Islands admittedly weren't on my list of places to viist until The Points Guy did a few articles on them, and then this was solidifed by a tour guide in Scotland who'd spent more than a decade living in the Canary Islands.
Visiting three of the seven islands in a week might have been overly ambitious, especially with how variable the weather can be there, but was still good to make the effort. As the last of six planned trips in a row, it was definitely nice to enjoy a meal or two on the beach under a palm tree -- at least when I could get away from the loud British tourists that apparently flock to the island (along with the Germans!).
Day 1 - United's inaugural fight from Newark to Tenerife. EWR-TFS is the last of the planned inaugural flights for me this summer. Throw in the customary weather delays in the northeast, of course.
Day 2 - arrival in Tenerife, then a few more flights to get to tourist trap that is Lanazarote.
Day 3 - cloudy skies and closed roads in Lanazarote.
Day 4 - Timanfaya National Park for a quick tour of the volcanoes, then off to Gran Canaria and the Dunas de Maspalomas (Maspalomas sand dunes).
Day 5 - Exploring Gran Canaria in the morning, then off to Tenerife.
Day 6 - El Teide National Park for not only volcanoes but views above the clouds in Tenerife.
Day 7 - return home with *gasp* no delays.
