Protip: book the ferry to Mykines in advance if you want to see puffins. They're pretty generous with cancellation as long as it's more than a couple of days out, so you can book for more than one day and see how the weather goes. On busy days they actually run a third ferry as well, but that has a bunch of caveats to meet before it actually sails; they will refund you the night before if it doesn't sail.
Second tip: at least as of this writing (the 2022 tourist season), the most popular trail on Mykines to see puffins, to the lighthouse, is closed for repairs. It's still possible to see a puffin colony on the cliffs north of the village, but at least in my day's wanderings, I didn't find any other places to see puffins.
Third tip: even on a calm day, the ferry can be rough. Strongly recommend staying below and not on the top deck. The ferry also gets between Sorvagur and Mykines pretty quickly, but the actual final manuvers down the coastline take quite a bit of time. So just because you're in sight of Mykines doesn't mean much-- from initial landfall to docking is easily 15 minutes on rough seas.
All the logistics aside, and lucking out with the weather, and whatnot: puffins are indeed adorable little buggers! They gather en masse like so many seabirds do, and at least in early afternoon, you could see a constant stream of them taking off from the cliff. It tapered off as the afternoon wore on, but still way cool to finally see them. You also see so many photo of them sitting, seemingly posing for the camera, because that almost seems to be what they do. I honestly got worried I'd be bored as some travel bloggers had become...
... then I realized catching pictures of puffins in flight was much more challenging.
Soon enough the whole afternoon was gone, the little bit of fish soup and hot chocolate that fueled me for lunch were long digested, and it was time to take the 5:00pm ferry back!
Did the final night in the Faroes in Torshavn. Easily my least favorite stay of the trip. Past 8:00pm on Saturday, many restaurants were closed, those that were open were mostly rather indifferent pizza/burgers/shawrama or similar, and while the Hilton Garden Inn has a lovely view, it's also way at the north edge of town and is not terribly convenient to dining or town or anything else.
