Mike's Birthday
Not too much schwag at the OC Marathon Expo this year, seemed smaller than normal? Unknowingly arrived right when the kids' 5K started, witnessed some very selfish runners getting angry at the staff because the kids' run blocked their access to the expo for fifteen minutes. Then rushed back for an afternoon of board games, then hit the newly reopened Hurry Curry for dinner. The chicken pasta is still good! Friends said the curry portions seemed smaller, but we asked and the owners said it's the same, they do everything by weight. Maybe we'd gotten more hungry?
OC Half Marathon the next day was the first actual race I was able to run the whole time. Snail's pace but this is progress. Watched Mike and AJ take off like bandits out of the gates, 1:30 and 1:25 target pace initially (!!!!!). They then both died, AJ in particular is capable of a 1:31 but ended up at a 1:37. Clearly not the best race day for anyone, but was still an accomplishment that the entire Lee family ran a half marathon-- this was BK's first.
Post-race Mike's birthday lunch at Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken plus whatever the restaurant was next door. Jack and family made it too so we had quite a little party outside on the patio, and Mike had a pork chop the size of his head. Topped it off with taro boba milk at Sunright Tea Studio.
Much later in the day, dinner at La Pizza & La Pasta at Eataly Culver City. Pizza wasn't bad and the buratta was a lot of cheese, which probably explained why it cost as much as the pizza. o_0 Managed to hit Ginger's Divine Ice Cream for dessert as well. Even on a cool evening, Ginger's had a line outside. I knew they were popular but did not know they were that popular. The strawberry ice cream and the cookies and cream ice cream were both excellent, but not sure I can afford the calories very often. *grins*
