Fooding
Finally dragged my butt to one of LA's most hyped restaurants, Gjelina. The food is solid contemporary Californian/American, distinctly above average, and service is superb. The decor is feeling a bit lived-in, contemporary California inside, not exactly glamourous sidewalk dining, and a small patio that honestly might be the nicest of the three dining areas?
The moon shoal oysters today were mild but not too mild, very refreshing, and the lamb sausage pizza was tasty. But none of these seem good enough to warrant the sustained level of hype all the critics have given Gjelina.
Surawon Tofu House for dinner. Top-notch homemade organic soon tofu and ban chan. Simply delicious. The decor clearly hasn't been touched since the previous occupants (a Mexican restaurant), and the galbi, while decent, is definitely second-fiddle to the tofu. Either way, if you enjoy Korean food, well worth a visit (especially if you can find parking!).
