Been a few years since the last visit to Dubai, so when Rick (excuse me, Dr. Miller) said he was going to be working there for a year and he was taking visitors, it seemed like a good excuse to visit. Got even better when I realized I could combine it with a holiday weekend and squeeze in a trip to Oman. Then had two more unexpected bonuses, enough time to head down to Abu Dhabi for the first time as well as a day at the Dubai Airshow.
There were a few hitches that resulted due to the last minute changes that kept popping up, but honestly I can't complain, especially given that that let me make it to Abu Dhabi for the first time. Would have loved to have made the very first day of the Dubai Airshow for the Emirates flyover that was the introduction to the whole show, but again, the show was such a last minute addition to the trip that I'm not complaining.
Days 1 and 2 - flying over via Toronto on a pair of Air Canada 787's.
Day 3 - visiting Oman's northernmost exclave, the port city of Khasab in Musandam.
Day 4 - day trip to Abu Dhabi, stopping at Ferrari World, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Day 5 - afternoon tea at the Burj Al Arab, visiting The Palm Jumeirah, and wandering International City/Dragon Mart.
Day 6: Part 1 - Dubai Airshow at Dubai World Central (DWC).
Day 6: Part 2 - wrapping up a long day at Dubai International Airport (DXB) before getting on one of the very late night/early morning international flights that they seem to love.
Day 7 - early morning layover in Zurich courtesy of SWISS Air, then finishing up the return to the USA with United Airlines and their newly-reopened Polaris Lounge in New York (EWR).
