Total fail on seeing the Fagradalsfjall volcano erupt. It was shooting lava into the air the day we arrived and we didn't make a stop, then last night we could see glowing lava on the livestream but again elected not to make the trip. After a few hours' sleep, this morning Fagradalsfjall was silent. DOH. (to be fair we were warned this could happen...)
Probably worked out in the end? We had a leisurely walk to Braud and Co. for fresh pastries, including just-pulled-from-the-oven cinnamon rolls, then sorted out flight delays due to the remains of Hurrican Ida flooding a massive chunk of the east coast.
Erik also got to enjoy his first time in international business class due to our upgrades going through despite the flight changes. United's 757 hard product is extremely dated, but the food was edible and either way, a lie-flat seat sure beats flying economy. Arrived in Chicago six hours later and failed to find the elusive hot dogs at the United Club, but at least a few hours after that, everyone had made it home safely!
