Utah/Colorado
A brief stop at sunrise to the popular Flight Park to photograph paragliders was a bit of a bust. They don't get started until a good bit after sunrise, and at least this early in the morning, the light and the wind were not that cooperative. Next time... should have chosen a hotel closer to the salt flats and done sunrise there!
Pair of quick, if bumpy, flights to Montrose, Colorado, and then straight to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park's south rim.
Unlike the massive grandeur of the Grand Canyon, Black Canyon of the Gunnison is narrower and has less opportunity for good photos, as even in the summer, the sun really only shines directly into the canyon a few hours a day. It's a less popular national park for a reason, although it still has some sheer drops and worthwhile views. Painted Wall is the most popular view on the south rim for a reason, with Chasm View second. The rest of the views are nice, even breathtaking if you haven't seen anything like it before, but they do get a bit repetitive.
Was hoping to head back up to the mountain for sunset, but rain and lightning made that a terrible idea. Headed back down the mountain and made do!
