Unexpected pain in the butt at the office seemed like a good excuse to get croissants after work. Artelice Patisserie apparently has quite a following, although it was my first visit to their very minimalist spot on Sawtelle. They prefer elaborate scoring for their somewhat on the crispy side crossiants. Offerings are plain, sweet, and savory, although perhaps overly yeasty as the interior cross-sections were a bit variable on the sample I had. I'd also pass on the turkey (!) in the future; it was a generous portion but not quite something you buy for its delicacy, it seemed like more of a sandwich.
Then might have gone overboard... no, definitely gone overboard with a second dose of Chef Nakayama's cooking this week. It was the week of the Special Winter Jubako, which honestly was fairly similar to the special Jubako with Snow Crab they did for Christmas. Both delicious, this one with a bit more emphasis on unagi, enoki mushroom, and seabream. And for those who pay attention to the details, even the same menu can have subtle differences. In particular the berry honey parfait was a solid change from the previous cakes, and assortment of sashimi and sushi is always superb..
Definitely overkill, but always delicious!
