Mar Vista Farmers' Market
Was low on veggies and had heard of a new Laos/Thai food truck that was making stops at the Sunday morning farmers' market in Mar Vista, so decided to make a stop!
Strict capacity controls and enforced mask wearing meant this was perhaps the only place I'd seen 100% mask wearing in a long time. And while busy it wasn't too bad except at the intersection of the two aisles making up the market. Kai Kai Dumplings, Ohm Foods, Oma's Puffers (mini puff pancakes!), I think there was also a deli sandwich stand, a gumbo stand, some bakeries... all looked good!
Alas I have only finite stomach space and finite freezer space, so stuck to Hemera's Bench for New Zealand pies. Picked up some meat pies and some dessert pies, we'll see how they taste later-- they came frozen.
And actually located outside of the farmers' market, by the south exit, was Phakhaothip food truck. The Lao sausage plate came with some tasty som thum (papaya salad), the sausage was good too but I'm not familiar with what makes Lao sausage special? Sticky rice that came with the plate hit the spot, too! And the khao plak gai, which had thicker noodles than one might expect to see in, say, pho, was also pretty legit. Chicken, pork blood, quail egg, quite a good combo. Would come back!
