Just managed to get one of Chef Nakao's last sushi boxes for 2020. The premium sushi box is always delicious, headlined by maguro, chutoro, otoro, and uni as always. But don't let that fool you or limit your perceptions of the tasty noms within.
Tonight's highlights were several: Shimaaji (jack mackerel) is always very, very refined a flavor, kanpachi (amberjack) is such a cut above the ordinary here that it too warrants mention, and perhaps the highlight in uniqeness and flavor is the nodoguro (black throat seaperch), which apparently isn't quite as rare as it seems given its constant appearance on the menu!
Last but not least, the itoyori dai (threadfin seabream) tonight was truly excellent. More strength in taste than seabream normally has, with a perfect texture. NOMNOMNOM!
